Hi everyone! I'm Sophie, a college student and horse nut. I say "bonjour" because I have my french finals on Wednesday--I'm from the U.S. so I'm not a native french speaker but I enjoy it all the same I'm a Christian. Besides horses, I love to read and write, annoy my sister, spend time outdoors (I wanna be a homesteader when I graduate xD), and design stuff. I'm a graphic designer by trade, freelancing right now. I also run my own photography/design/game development business. I started playing sim games in 2004 with Horseland and other automated ones, but a couple of years ago I found an unautomated game and was like, what the heck?! I figure since I'll have this summer off before I transfer to uni (hopefully I get a real job though xDD), I'd do some unautomated simming for a while, and SAI seems like a nice place to start (I've played another large sim for a while but am taking a hiatus). Okay, so: Questions. These are pretty basic, but I wanted to ask them to make sure I get a good idea of gameplay! SAI and AllSim seem different from some other unautomated games; so is this where you basically make your own game? I assume you guys don't just create horses on a whim, but start out by buying them from others and breeding them, right? Then you manage your "funds" (how would this work? if at all? xD) and your barn by keeping files and data on things... and obviously create a website for your stable, records, etc., right? What would be best for me to get started in? Should I breed horses or wait on that? When you breed a horse, do you stick to real life gestation periods or is it just "born" when you "breed" them? Sooo... last question! I promise Should I get started by setting up my website and information for my barn then look into buying horses? Thanks everyone! Looking forward to meeting you all and for a fun summer of sim gaming!

Welcome to SAI Sophie!
So for starters, you create your own farm within all sim and you can compete with it at any of the all sim forums. You can create horses whenever you want (the beauty of not being in a game) as well as buy or breed horses.
You don't really keep track of finances in All Sim. No one ever really uses money, so it's not a big issue.
Your farm, you create a website for it. The website is where you keep track of all of your important information (or you can create a board to use as a "file cabinet").
You can get started in a few different ways. You can post a wanted advertisement or browse the sales boards. You can also post a request for a condition free package or create your own horses. You also want to get started on your website right away
I hope that I answered all of your questions. If you have any more, feel free to PM me

Hi Sophie!
Another college student here. Sadly I only speak english, and I'm jealous of how many simmers I've met who are fluent in at least 2 languages, I think that's so cool.
It seems like Tessa pretty much covered your questions but I just thought I'd add that everyone in all sim has different methods, so it's really about how realistic you want to be. For example, I just real life aging, so one real life year=one year older for my horses. Other people choose to speed-age because they want older horses that can compete at higher levels. So whatever works for you.
My only suggestion to you, as someone who came back to playing all sim after several years of other sim games, is that if you care about having sim lines in your horses pedigrees, or having sim bred horses, then I would start your stable with horses purchased from other simmers that have sim parents, or doing custom breds with other peoples horses. I started all sim with almost entirely created horses with real life pedigrees. I have to show them extensively in all sim to get them a good reputation (so to speak), so that people recognize their offspring as sim bred horses. That's just a preference I have though, not everyone cares whether a horse is created or sim bred.
Anyway, welcome to SAI, the people here are helpful so don't hesitate to ask questions!
Amanda

Thanks for the welcomes I understand now, the whole game concept makes much more sense. I wish I didn't have finals this week, I can't wait to get started on my stable. @amanda: I'm not nearly close to being fluent, haha. I sure wish I was, but I took french 1 this semester so I only know how to say greetings, family members, questions, food, basic stuff really. As well as my personal favourite, "Zut a'lors" which means darn xD Thanks for the tips, that definitely helps ^_^

I have finals this week too!!!! Boo, they're terrible. But then it's summer ;D
If you don't mind me asking, where do you go to school and what are you studying? I love knowing there are other college students out there who are simmers, and I'm not the only one using free college time to play with internet horses. I'm at University of Connecticut studying Environmental Science.

Yeah, I only have one more in class final now and I'm so relieved Good luck on yours!! My school is in North Carolina If you want to message me and talk more about it, that's fine, I just don't like giving the name out publicly since it's a really small school xDD I'm a graphic design major. Tomorrow is my last day at community college and then I'm transferring to the smaller university in the fall And awesome! I'm a Connecticut native, and my mom went to UConn too! Great state, great school Do you like it? My mom says it's a lot nicer than when she went there, haha, I'm sure they've made some nice upgrades I haven't really seen many non automated sim gamers around who are college students, so this is cool I think most of them play the automated ones b/c they're easier and not as time consuming, but those get pretty boring after a while IMO.
