Hey guys,
I'm going to be setting the ASKC up on my forum. Before I find information on every type of dog competition known to man, I want to know what you have and what you want.
Also, the ASKC will be holding a promotional auction. What would you guys like to see, as far as breedings/training/ect. go?

I have dogs doing agility, conformation, schutzhund, obedience mostly. In the auction I'd love to see breeds being able to perform these disciplines/events.

I haven't had time to show my dogs in quite a while, but I do plan on bringing them back eventually... They show in agility and conformation, and I am on the fence about bringing in a few Schutzhund competitors, too. Breed-wise, I have Chihuahuas and one lone Boston Terrier, and I'm considering adding German Shepherds, Border Collies, and Pomeranians (and about a million other breeds .

Okay, a couple things I want to toss out for input:
1) I recommend dogs that do show in conformation stick to conformation, much like you wouldn't see a horse bred for halter competing in other events (in the real world). However, would this deter people from showing with the ASKC? I do say "should" in the rules, so that is open for interpretation I guess.
2) I think dogs should be able to compete in a max of two events per show, and each show has everything. Does this sound fair? Right now I have: Conformation, Agility, and Obedience but I am working on putting in Schutzhund events. Entering two means they're entering half of the available events. (Events will change, I am assuming, as people's demands change).
3) I currently recognize the AKC groups, including Misc. and Foundation Stock Services (FSS). Is there any additional groups, potentially from other countries, that are "needed"? This can be added to and changed over time. If there's a large group of dogs that just doesn't fit into an AKC category based upon breeds/standards currently in there, I will be more than willing to adjust to include them.
4) Keep the original inputs coming as well Events and breeds/genders/training/age you'd like to see for the promotional auction!

I totally get where you're coming from, but I don't think that this is as "hard and fast" as it is in the horse world... I know a lot of dogs around here who compete in both conformation and agility, conformation and schutzhund, or conformation and sheepdog trials. I just did a quick google search, and also came up with a bunch of border collie and sheltie kennels that make very clear that their whole breeding philosophy is based on dogs who can compete successfully in both conformation and some working class or another. So I don't know... This rule wouldn't "deter" me, per say, but it would probably make me less active because instead of having, say, 10 dogs that I'd enter in 2 classes each, I'd need 20 dogs each entered in one class. If that makes sense LOL. But it will probably be at least a few weeks before I could be active anyway, so don't base your decisions on me! This sounds good to me! I mean, if you are going to be obsessively realistic, than you'd never see a show in RL that offered all of these classes together, but hey - this is SIM and it's way easier to run one big show than 50 small ones 3) I currently recognize the AKC groups, including Misc. and Foundation Stock Services (FSS). Is there any additional groups, potentially from other countries, that are "needed"? This can be added to and changed over time. If there's a large group of dogs that just doesn't fit into an AKC category based upon breeds/standards currently in there, I will be more than willing to adjust to include them. I don't know enough about all the different breeds/groups to answer this question 4) Keep the original inputs coming as well Events and breeds/genders/training/age you'd like to see for the promotional auction! Yeah, like I need MORE things to show and keep updated... lol. All the breeds/disciplines I listed above. I'm not stuck on ages/genders/colours, but I prefer female dogs on the slightly younger side. It's just my awesome brain power. ETA: Dogs posted in the promotional auction will be puppies (2011) to roughly three years (2008).

I show a handful of dogs in both conformation and events, but not all, just like some I show in conformation or events only. And I don't see why it'd be a rule that you couldn't show a horse or dog in a conformation/halter class and an event. My horse was a halter horse before I bought him and he wins just fine in his classes, infact my trainer has always wanted him to go to nationals so its not like its held him back performance wise. I know a few horses that were/are shown halter and ridden in performance classes. I don't have any real experience with dogs but I've heard/seen of dogs with conformation titles being used/trained for events. I have lots of dogs and only a handful are recognized by the AKC since the game I played was the NCC which is based on the FCI (includes most breeds world wide). But I'm pretty sure most people wont have breeds like the Shikoku or Laika's so I'm not sure it'd be worth it to you to include all my other breeds into your list. As long as you'll allow them to compete in the events I don't mind not showing them in conformation, they are really working dogs anyways I have every kind of dog competing in every kind of event. I have lots of herding, hunting (this includes retrievers, pointers, earthdog and large game hunters), agility and flyball. But I also have obedience, schutzhund and sledding dogs. I think the max of two events per show sounds good. And I already have over two hundred dogs, I don't need anymore, so I wouldn't be adopting any new pups but I have lots of titled dogs and I'd be happy to do some litters maybe you can add into your auction if you'd like?

Like Indiza said, some breeds are bred for conformation and work, like the herding dogs, while others have slight variations in conformation - with my experience with Labradors is that the Conformation ones are too heavy/too thickly built to do well in other events, and that the working Labradors are lighter with more muscle/stamina/endurance. There are, of course, exceptions to this, and this is why I put 'should' in the rule
Oh yes - if breeds aren't recognized by the AKC, but can be proved to "fit into" one of their groups (such as sort of Retriever entering the sporting group) I'm fine by that, and all performance events are open to all breeds, including mutts. Here is the "more advanced" class list that includes basic entering information, to get an idea of where I am going.
Having SIM bred dogs would be great in the Promotional Auction. Right now I have only creates with real lines, so I'm sure others would appreciate a variety If you'd like to PM me with what you're thinking, try to keep in mind what people have suggested prior to you about training/breeds/age. I'm trying to keep dogs to a maximum of about three. Thank you for offering to donate puppies
