I've been having trouble finding some good pictures to go along with my horses (as well as finding people that will allow me to use them) so I decided to just start digitally painting my own. Some examples are here and here. My question is, what do you all think of doing these? This way, I can customize my horses to look exactly how I want and I don't have to worry about infringing on copyright laws. How would you all feel if you sold a horse knowing that instead of an actual picture that a digital painting would be used instead? Would you breed to or buy a horse with such a picture?

A few other members have done this in the past and I don't have any issues with it. I think yours look good. However, if I were buying a horse with a digital painting I wouldn't use it on the horse's page because I use photos. I do think it's neat and creative though, I've toyed around with the idea myself but I just don't have the time to make a graphic for each of my horses. Just make sure that if you're using somebody else's line-art you give them credit (if they require it) because you can still infringe on copyright laws if you're not giving credit for the stock you use.

They are great! I think they're a very creative way to depict your horses on their pages. If I had the time and was creative, I would do those instead of pictures at SAI.
What program do you use to paint them?

Ashlee - Thanks! I didn't figure other people would use them.
Tessa - Thank you. I use GIMP. My dad won't pay $100+ for Photoshop, so GIMP works for me. haha.

I didn't say this but I have Photoshop CS5 that I downloaded from thepiratebay.com. The torrent client I use is Vuze, which you'll want to download first. It's always an option.

Yeah, I think your images look really nice! I have had people buy horses from me, and remove their photo & replace it with a digitally-colored graphic instead, and it's fine with me as long as the color/pattern are not altered for the horse.

I've had people buy horses from me and use digital images and I have no problem with that, However I wouldn't use those paintings if I were to buy a horse from someone. I do really like your's though, Especially one little jet.
