Hey all!
So I'm thinking about adding in some Reined Cow Horse and Working Cow Horse divisions to the RCHA and I wanted to know, what do you all think of this?
For clarification:
A Reined Cow Horse competition actually consists of three events. Rein work, Herd work and Fence work. Which, in layman's terms is Reining, Cutting and Working Cow Horse. Each of these events is judged and scored separately and then those scores are added together to equal the final score from which the horse is placed.
A Working Cow Horse is a separate competition in itself, not to be confused with Reined Cow Horse (though the latter does include the event). A Working Cow Horse is a single horse alone in the arena with a single cow. Depending upon the pattern, the horse must show it's ability to maneuver and 'push' the cow where it wants it to go. First the horse will do a bit of cutting with the cow at one end of the arena. After that, the horse typically does multiple, usually two, runs down the fence with the cow and rolling it back on the fence. After the second roll back the horse and rider will then show their ability to circle the cow in the middle of the arena, both directions. There are many different patterns, but these are typically the basics.
Here is the link to a video of favorite stallion of mine, Matt Dillon Dun It, doing a phenomenal Working Cow Horse pattern. This should help show you what a Working Cow Horse does.

Anyway, I have a ton of Reined Cow Horses that are competing in Reining and Cutting with the RCHA - but they aren't getting any Working Cow Horse experience. Plus, I'm sure there are a few people out there with horses that compete in Working Cow Horse events that need some experience.
At this moment, I would not be splitting Reined Cow Horse up by Rein work, Herd work and Fence work - partly because I have bigger plans for that later on. As of right now, each class would be ran as one event. Though your horse would technically be competing in three by entering a Reined Cow Horse class.
Plus, we'd still have the regular 'ole Reining and Cutting divisions.
What does everybody think about this?
Please do not be biased and vote no only because you don't show with the association and have no interest in it. I'm mainly asking to see what the members opinions are. If you do not show with the RCHA but feel it would be a good idea for the members of the association, feel free to vote. I mainly just don't want no votes only because "Oh I don't show with the RCHA, so I don't care."
