PROjECT MOTLEY NEWS
Now that I've returned, I've been tirelessly updated my website - adding new pictures, new descriptions, etc. - and shortly I will be presenting a new layout that, I hope, is keeping with the timeless and classicly simple layouts PjM has always had. With this new layout, I'm happy to also introduce some news faces; though you'll have to be patient, because they aren't ready just yet. Until then, I'm giving a general update on the PjM horses. Expect to see Finch Gathering returning sometimes this March.
YEARLINGS
Our largest group by far, the yearling string at Motley is really the heart and soul of our program. Almost all of our foals have been raised entirely by Motley, and I eagerly await the day where they are gorwn and competing here at SAI, showing off our programs as only they can. Eleven total yearlings call Motley home, but they are an original, lively bunch - so don't think anyone gets lost in this crowd.
Undoubtably, Thee Dark God is the leader of our little crew, instigating everything and doing his best to never take the blame. I've really enjoyed getting to know this colt, and I can't thank Kaylin enough for allowing me to purchase him. As second in command, our gelding Rum Swiggin' Devil is still an angry, sullen, and hard-to-handle boy that often needs to be watched. He's a bit of a bully, and mor ethan once he's had to be turned out alone to cool his jets. We're hoping that time, and being a gelding (He was only recently cut), will help ease away some of that aggression.
Disgraced Halo, the baby of the group and admittedly, the favorite, is just a doll to be around. After dealing with the difficult Pirate, it's nice to just relax with Ace and spoil him a bit. Of course, another overly spoiled girl from this bunch is Crimson Scream, and Ace may have mastered begging for treats... but Lacey has it down to an art form. She's just so pretty and dainty, the picture of a Thoroughbred with a gentle, pleasing demeanor that makes her a dream to handle.
Then we have Hello Angel, who's also a bit of a baby - but in a more obvious way. Casper was the hardest foal to wean from the group, and to this day retains a childlike charm that is positively endearing. He is a bit skittish, and can't stand loud noises or sudden movements, but we've slowly been working on his confidence and hope with time his fears with disappear. Pairing him with T Stolen Slewicidal Love, however, was our worst mistake. This dark bay filly, with her big eyes and sleek coat, has proven to be absolutely fearless. She goes full-throttle across the pastures, pushing herself as hard and fast as she can, and already has scaled several fences at Motley. She never hesitates, never second guesses herself... instead Lenny goes at life, pedal to the metal, and thinks about it later.
Then we have RFR Richly Historic, a buckskin filly that is almost deviantly pretty. She's definately the flirt of the group, always palling around with the boys and causing fights, and the fastest way to upset her - making Raina impossible in minutes - is to pair her up with Lacey. While Raina may not be flawed, she is not perfectly to scale, unlikes Lacey, and Raina's jealous nature as made it impossible to pair her with a traveling buddy that is 'prettier' than she is. Running Freely Drunken Black Mariah tends to fit that bill, if only because she's a massive filly. Her draft blood has really been made obvious this year, and she is easily the largest in the group, awkwardly holding her head down in an effort to seem smaller than she is.
One can't forget the terror twins, RFR Raising A Star & RTW Behold The Tyrant. Together these colts are our own version of the smash brothers, gleefully chasing cats and busting down fences. Frankie's responsible for a dozen or so escapes, taking down fences so that the other yearlings can run the humans through their paces by galloping around PjM's grounds. Taylor tends to take Frankie's lead, but without his chestnut partner in crime he becomes nervous and uncertain - hence why we can't split them up.
Lastly, we have the newest yearling at PjM - my birthday present from SAI, little Guaranteed Showy. A gorgeous cremello, she's had a tough time fitting in with our tight-knit group, but slowly is worming her way into their hearts - and mine - with her gentle, dove-like grace.
