Does anyone know more about the dominant white gene, particularly in thoroughbreds? I found this blog the other day and I had no idea that some of the thoroughbreds in my sim's bloodlines were in fact dominant white and not sabino. I thought it might be interesting for some of you who have sabinos as well. Anyways I thought maybe someone here may no more about this gene and how it is passed. I guess now I will need to change the color and genetic info on some of my horses. Thanks

Sabino tends to be a "catch-all" term for any irregular white on a horse. Kind of like the "Overo" or "Piebald" of yesterday. It was thought the horses were Sabino until they actually were able to identify the gene and found it was KIT gene (like Tobiano and Roan) and not related to Sabino at all. That being said, only one Sabino gene has ever been found (SB1) and it is not found in Arabians or Thoroughbreds, plus several other breeds. It is suspected there are more Sabino genes out there, but they haven't yet been identified. Another interesting thing is that most people think that any sort of White markings on a purebred Arabian are Sabino, when in most cases they're actually Splash. For example, Khartoon Khlassic is touted as being Sabino, when he very obviously is Splash White. As you pointed out, Thoroughbreds like Puchilingui are not Sabino at all. But they carry the W5 KIT gene. Another well known Dominant White horse is the Arabian stallion R Khasper and some of his offspring. R Khasper carries the W3 KIT gene and is the root horse for the gene, it was never known to exist before it was found in him. GQ Santana was a famous Dominant White Quarter Horse, carrying the W10 KIT gene. W10 is known to include a very wide variety of phenotypes, some of which can be seen in GQ Santana's foals. If you want to read up a bit more, Wikipedia has a decent article about Dominant White for those who are newer to horse genetics. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominant_white

Do you have more information on Splash White in Arabians? I've never heard of Khartoon Klassic being considered a Slpash before.
