So..I've been doing the things I can to make my life easier, and one of the things I've been thinking about is the ages I retire my horses. I've always been one to show horses until about 15 years of age.
But, I'm beginning to think that 10-12 would make more sense due to the large amount of horses I have.
When I say retired I mean, pulled from under saddle competition. They would still be shown in hand in select associations. There would also be exceptions to this rule, horses that are doing really really well and I just can't bear to stop showing would continue.
This would drastically reduce the number of horses I'm showing, and would mean I can show more often.
Thoughts?

I pull my horses based more on experience, rather than age. I don't want to retire a stud if he's only got a few hundred points with an association. I'll wait until he's a few titles into his career with the associations he's with and then retire him .... that is if he's already 10yo+ of course. If it's a young stallion I'll show him until he titles out. I've actually got a several 15yo+ studs that are still showing under saddle. Mares, I tend to retire from under saddle competition between 10-15yo depending upon how much showing they've done. All of my horses that have retired from under saddle competition still show in halter with their associations that offer halter classes.

i usually retire mares from under saddle showing at 15, and stallions at 20, but i've been thinking about doing some of my boys a little earlier too.

My boys retire at 15, my mares retire between 7 and 10 depending on how they're doing and if I really have the energy to keep collecting records for them undersaddle lol.

My general rule is I will retire mares between 4-10 depending on things, 10 for horses I want to show or are doing well. That way they begin their broodmare career before they get too old. Some mares I show to get some show experience on their records so I retire them whenever I feel like it after 4. My stallions retire when they fully title or at 15.
However I did just go through my barn and retire or atleast temporarily remove a lot of horses from showing. Most aged under 10 just so I didn't have as many horse showing and I can focus on my sim bred horses.

I don't have a set age. For me its all on the horses.
If the horse is doing badly, and I don't think they are going to do any better. Then I will retire them. If the horse is older (10+) and has done really well and I can stand seeing them retire then I will retire them.

My horses usually retire if they reach Hall of Fame Status. If they are born before 1995 (in 2011) then they are retired as well they go to breeding program.

After thinking about it and reading everyone's thoughts, it actually makes more sense to try and title everyone out before retirement. I think that's what my focus will be. For the older kids I think I'll focus on titling them out within their breed association, for the younger kids, in as many associations as I can.
Thanks girls <3
